Energy Basics: Where we are /where we're going and how much is it going to cost us?
Energy, with an emphasis on electric power, will be the topic of the next Republican Party program scheduled
for May 28, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Pickens County Administrative Building, 1266 East Church Street, Jasper, Georgia.
Are you interested in what Congress is doing to reduce our energy independence? How their actions will affect you?
Do you know the difference between biodiesel and ethanol, the cost to produce them? Do you remember what a kilowatt is? If not,
or even if you do, come to this Energy 101 program to learn the answers to these questions, and much more.
The program has been organized by Pam Davidson. She will be one of the speakers together with Jim Powell.
Pam is a renewable energy consultant who has been actively involved in finding progressive solutions for Georgia’s energy challenges.
Most recently she initiated and saw to enactment the state’s first comprehensive “new energy” bill, HB 670, which provides incentives for residential,
commercial and industrial energy users to employ energy efficiently and to use solar, wind, and biomass renewable energy technologies.
The bill has been signed by the Governor.
Jim Powell works as an independent energy consultant to states, local governments and industry. He retired in February 2007
after a 35 year career as a Senior Executive with the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE). Among other duties, he directed planning and budgeting
for the development and implementation of the State Energy Program, Weatherization Assistance Program, Tribal Energy Program, Renewable Energy
Production Incentive Program and International Renewable Energy Program.
The program will cover energy basics, energy choice determinates, demand side considerations, supply side sources, and timely
related topics. There will be time for questions from the audience.
Representatives from Georgia Power, Amicalola Electric Member Cooperative, and the North Georgia Community Action Agency will be present.
There has been a lot of talk about energy by politicians for over 30 years. Join us for this program to learn energy facts from our expert
speakers. Everyone in the community is invited.
