CANDIDATES KICKOFF
CONGRESSIONAL RACE
The Pickens County Republican Party will hold its annual Tomato Sandwich fundraiser at Lee Newton Park on Saturday, June 20, 2010 from 11:30 am til 2:00 pm.o:p>
This year’s event will
feature the announced candidates to fill the 9th District US Congress
seat to be vacated by Cong. Nathan Deal.
In April Cong. Deal announced his candidacy for Governor of Georgia. Since then Mike Evans, Tom Graves and
Bill Stephens have announced their candidacy to be US Congressman. All of three will speak at the June
20 event.
Mike Evans has served
in the Senate, has been Chair of the Board of the Georgia Department of
Transportation and currently serves as the 9th District
representative on the board of the Department of Community Affairs.
Tom Graves is in his
fourth term as the House 12th District member of the General
Assembly. His district includes all
of Pickens County, half of Gordon County and a portion of Bartow County.
Bill Stephens, a
resident of Fannin County, served several terms in the Georgia Senate,
representing Cherokee and Pickens County.
He was Majority Leader of the Senate during his last term as a senator.
We are fortunate in the
9th District to have such qualified candidates for Congress and who
are willing to take on the rigors of the job and the political campaign.
At the event tomato
sandwiches (all-you-can-eat) will be served by members of the PCRP at a cost of
$10 per adult, $5 under 12 years and 3 years and under free. Musical entertainment will be
provided as well. The funds raised
will be used to support Republican Candidates for national, state and local
offices.
It is possible that at
the event candidacies will be announced for the state representative seat being
vacated by Rep.Tom Graves.
Tickets can be obtained
at the park or from any members of the PCRP Executive Committee. If you have any
questions contact Larry Toney, Chair, at 706-268-2058 or larrytoney20@aol.com.
